CAAS – An Extra College Application Option

CAAS – 另一个大学申请平台

为准备2018年大学招生季,美国几所大学聚集在一起创建了一个新的大学申请平台名为 “the Coalition for Access, Affordability, and Success (CAAS)”

CAAS – An Extra College Application Option

As the class of 2018 prepares for the college admissions season, there will have an extra college application option to choose from: the Coalition for Access, Affordability, and Success (CAAS).

There have been a lot of questions about the new college application tool including what it is, what it includes, and whether or not to use it to apply to colleges.

What is the Coalition Application?

In September 2015 it was announced that over 90 colleges, including all the Ivy Leagues and Stanford, would be forming the CAAS in an effort to “increase college access and revamp the way that students apply to college.”

While the Common Application has over 600 member colleges, the CAAS has a smaller member number – a little over 90 – and each member college must meet criteria like affordable tuition, need-based aid, and a six-year federal graduation rate of 70% or higher.

The CAAS was formed with the goal of improving the college application process for all students.  The CAAS application provides a variety of tools that will guide and support students throughout the process of finding a college home, such as the locker, where students can save essays, projects, and other materials for review by counselors and admissions officers, the application itself, and resources for students who may have limited access to college prep materials and guidance.

Who are the members of the CAAS?

After reading about what is the Coalition Application, you may be thinking “Which one should you use?”

As you can see on the list of CAAS members, most of the schools accept applications from both the Common Application and the Coalition Application.  Students may be confused as to which application colleges will “prefer”.  Just like SAT and ACT, there is no one platform that colleges will prefer over the other.

Lastly, no matter which college admissions application you choose, staying informed on the latest college admissions news and trends is important when applying to college.
